SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 24-year-old missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died on Wednesday, Nov. 6, following a medical episode, according to a Church spokesperson.

Elder Tinotenda Watson Maumbe was serving in the Benin Cotonou Mission in Africa. Church spokesperson Sam Penrod said Maumbe suffered a “sudden medical episode” in his apartment, which resulted in a fall and a head injury. His cause of death is undetermined at this time.

Penrod said Maumbe was from the Gweru Zimbabwe Stake and had been serving his mission since February 2024.

“We send our love and deepest sympathies to Elder Maumbe’s family and friends, as well as his companion and the missionaries he has served alongside,” Penrod said on behalf of the Church. “We pray that each will be comforted and feel the peace of the Savior as they remember and honor Elder Maumbe and his faithful service as a missionary.”
