India Vs New Zealand, Bengaluru Weather LIVE Updates: Rain halts play, covers on at Chinnaswamy stadium

Updated: 19-10-2024, 07.30 AM

India Vs New Zealand, Bengaluru Weather LIVE Updates: Sarfaraz Khan has scored his maiden international century. Meanwhile, India are now 80 runs behind and with 7 wickets in hand, the Men in Blue have a real chance of making a game here.

After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit Sharma (52), Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan posted a partnership of 136 runs off 163 balls. However, Virat Kohli (70) was caught by Blundell on the last delivery of 49th over, bowled by Glenn Phillips. Sarfaraz was still batting at 70 when Stumps was declared for DAY 3.

For New Zealand, Ajaz Patel took 2 wickets, while Glenn Phillips picked up one wicket.

On DAY 3, Kohli completed his 9000 runs in Test cricket in 197 innings. He has a batting average of 48 and has the highest Test score of unbeaten 254. Also, he has 29 centuries in his name.

Kohli is the 4th Indian players to complete 9000, after Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Rahul Dravid (13265) and Sunil Gavaskar (10122). But slowest to reach the milestone in terms of innings taken (197).

Earlier on Day 3 of the first Test, New Zealand batters were all out at 402 and were leading by 356 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored a century (134), supported by Devon Conway’s 99 and Tim Southee’s 65 runs.

While India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each. Apart from this, Mohammed Siraj picked up 2 wickets, both Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin clinched one each.

Team India were off to a flying start on Day 3 of the Test, getting the two quick wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell inside the first 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were the two wicket takers this morning, continuing to build pressure on the Kiwis.

Rohit Sharma‘s India will be looking to bounce back today after being dismissed for 46 in the first innings. At 180/3, New Zealand have a commanding 134-run lead and will be keen to keep the momentum going in their favour.

India’s three spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, took a wicket apiece on day two, but couldn’t expose the fault lines in New Zealand’s batting further.

New Zealand, on the other hand, got their innings off to a great start thanks to a 91-run knock from Devon Conway, who ensured there was no collapse like there was in India’s innings. Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra (22) and Daryl Mitchel (14) are now batting for the Kiwis at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in a bid to take the match further for their side.

India, reduced to their third lowest total in Test cricket after 42 all out at Lords in 1974 and 36 all out against Australia in Adelaide, will be keen to get past this Kiwi line-up as quickly as possible to post a big total and demonstrate their continued status as a world-class side.

However, just as India were on the verge of overhauling New Zealand’s lead, the Chinnaswamy ground was hit by rain, leaving cricket fans clamouring for the live action to resume as soon as possible.

India vs New Zealand Live: Speaking to cricbuzz, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari said, “You cannot remove Shubman Gill as of now because he scored a hundred in the previous series and he also has a very good record. When he recovers from his stiff neck, he will become an automatic choice. KL Rahul will be the one under most pressure,”

“Even if Rahul doesn’t score runs in the next two Tests, he will still get preference for the initial Tests in Australia. But, if he doesn’t perform there as well, then Sarfaraz could come into the playing XI. I feel Sarfaraz should also get a fair opportunity. It is good that the players who are in the reserves are performing. There will definitely be pressure on some players in the playing XI,” the former cricketer added

India vs New Zealand Live: VVS Laxman on Rohit Sharma’s selfless statement

India vs New Zealand Live: Speaking at the Security Now 2024 confrence, Laxman said (as quoted by PTI), “For leaders, it’s humanly impossible not to make mistakes. We won the toss and we elected to bat first and it was counterproductive (because) we were bowled out for 46,”

“Who went to the press conference? It was Rohit Sharma. He accepted that ‘yes, I misread the wicket’. Leaders take that ownership of (their) decisions…It’s not necessary that every time the decisions are right, but you take the ownership and then whenever the team doesn’t do well, you go and face the flak. Whenever the team does well, you promote the guy who actually requires that recognition and that limelight,” the former Indian cricketer added

India vs New Zealand Live: Rachin Ravindra on importance of Kohli wicket

India vs New Zealand Live: Speaking after the day’s play on Friday, Ravindra said, “It’s pretty hard to crystal-ball gaze into the future. It’s a quality batting line-up on a wicket that’s not doing too much, so it’s important for us to hold our lines and lengths and do that for long periods. But I think Kohli’s wicket at the end was very important,”

“Obviously, he’s a guy who has scored 9,000-plus Test runs, which is pretty mind-blowing, but for us it was a huge wicket. We know things happen quickly in this part of the world, so, hopefully, we can stick at it and get a few wickets in the morning,” Ravindra added
