Three Oregon institutions were ranked among the top 300 best universities in the United States by Wallethub, a personal finance website focusing on financial health.
Wallethub recently released a study comparing 748 universities and ranking them based on metrics observed over their student selectivity, cost and financing, faculty resources, campus safety, campus experience, educational outcomes and career outcomes.
Institutions were considered universities if they offered graduate programs including master’s and/or doctoral degrees.
The top five universities were Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dartmouth College.
Neither Oregon State University or the University of Oregon made the list. Here are the Oregon schools that did.
Reed College ranked 113th and fell into the 85th percentile of the best U.S. universities. Reed College is a private, independent liberal arts and sciences college in southeast Portland and is known for its standards of scholarly practice, along with citizen engagement and creative thinking, according to its website.
Students of Reed are offered bachelor of art degrees in 26 academic departments, a total of 38 majors and the potential to create their own major with college approval. There also are unique graduate programs students can pursue to obtain a Master of Arts degree in liberal studies.
There are approximately 1,458 students enrolled at Reed College and full-time tuition is $69,040.
The University of Portland, in north Portland, is ranked 191st and was in the 74th percentile of the best U.S. universities. It is a private college that offers a “hands-on curriculum that drives discovery,” allowing its student to pursue a liberal-arts-focused curriculum to explore different interests, find new directions and combine fields of study, according to the college’s website.
UP has more than 45 undergraduate degree programs and a variety of master’s, doctorate and certificate programs. They also include a selection of fellowships and grants, study abroad programs, an honors program and immersive education opportunities.
There are approximately 3,654 undergraduate students enrolled at University of Portland and full-time tuition is $56,800.
Lewis & Clark College, a private a liberal arts college in southwest Portland, ranked 232nd and fell into 69th percentile of best universities in the U.S., also claiming the 103rd spot in U.S. News’ Best Liberal Arts Colleges.
