An East Irondequoit school bus transporting high school students was struck by gunfire on Route 104 Monday morning.
According to the East Irondequoit Central School District, the school bus was westbound on Route 104 near the Portland Avenue overpass around 7:25 a.m., when it was struck by at least one bullet. Two windows on the bus shattered when the projectile struck the side of the bus, according to New York State Police, which is investigating the incident along with Irondequoit police. .
Ten students were on the bus at the time, as they were being transported to The Aquinas Institute of Rochester. None of the students were injured, according to district officials and State Police.
“The safety of our students and bus driver is our top priority, and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure their well-being,” according to a statement from the school district.
