Dog Haus in Cheyenne unexpectedly closes amid federal investigations

Updated: 05-11-2024, 06.54 PM

CHEYENNE — The Dog Haus Biergarten restaurant in Cheyenne has closed once again, indicated by a sign posted on the door indicating they are closed for maintenance.

They had temporarily closed in March 2023, but this closure seems to be more permanent, as a sign on College Drive indicates that the property is now for lease.

On the Dog Haus website, the location near the intersection of College Drive and Pershing Boulevard is noted as temporarily closed. They had briefly closed less than a month ago, with the same “closed for maintenance” sign posted on the door, but had reopened shortly before closing again recently.

The closure in March of last year was the result of a change of ownership from Goalz LLC to FAFO Restaurant Group LLC.

Founded in Pasadena, California in 2010, Dog Haus, known for its hot dogs and beer on tap, quickly grew across the country. Today, they have over 50 locations across 12 states, not including Wyoming. The Dog Haus at 3838 Atkin St. in Cheyenne was the only location in Wyoming.

In September, the U.S. Department of Labor filed a petition in federal court against FAFO Restaurant Group LLC, doing business as Dog Haus Biergarten in Cheyenne, for failing to comply with a federal subpoena served earlier this year regarding potential violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

On July 7 of this year, Dog Haus in Cheyenne posted on Facebook acknowledging some of the rumors that they were not paying their employees.

“While we cannot comment on particular former employees, we want to set the record straight on a few things,” according to the post. It continued, noting that “all employees are paid when they complete required paperwork” and that they recently began requiring background checks on staff.

Some former employees have posted online alleging that FAFO Restaurant Group has failed to pay them and failed to pay them on time, including one post on Reddit that claims their checks from the owners would often be late, bounce or not show up during their two months working at the eatery in the beginning of 2024.

Several comments on a Facebook post about the business closure further allege that the owners failed to pay employees several times.

The property is listed for sale online by Century 21 Bell Real Estate for $2.4 million. Dog Haus officials could not be reached by the WTE for comment prior to publication.

FAFO Restaurant Group LLC is registered to a downtown Sheridan address, where 53,267 businesses were represented as of 2021, several of which have been reported as scams, according to The Sheridan Press.
