Here is Davis’ nomination from the school:

“Royal Davis is a freshman at Canal Winchester High School. He plays the drums in the CWHS band. He is also a member of the choir. His positive attitude is contagious, and everyone smiles when they cross paths with Royal. He is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He is genuinely interested in others, always acknowledging their interests, and noticing if they need a hug or kind word. Royal has started high school off strong academically and passed quarter 1 with straight A’s.”

Here is Speed’s nomination:

“Marcus Speed is an active member of the Black Student Association, OMUN, and Key Club at New Albany High School. As captain of both the cross country and track teams, he has made a significant impact in athletics, achieving four years on varsity and ranking in the top six all-time at New Albany in cross country, along with being a two-time school record holder. His competitive achievements include appearances at both state and national levels in track. For his senior seminar, he focused on coaching middle school cross country, sharing running tips, and helping students set personal goals, which enhanced his leadership skills. Through this experience, he aimed to inspire fellow African American distance runners, encouraging them to understand that speed comes in many forms and isn’t defined by appearance.”
