Christie says he would bet ‘about five bucks’ on Harris

Updated: 05-11-2024, 11.42 PM

Former New Jersey governor and GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie said he would “bet about five bucks” on Vice President Harris winning the presidential election during an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

“I’d bet about five bucks on Harris today. For a guy from New Jersey, that’s not a lot of conviction,” Christie said, per Mediaite.

Christie also expressed skepticism that Trump would accept the election results if he loses.

“What’s the evidence that he will?” Christie asked.

“All of a sudden now he’s going to get religion and accept them if he loses? I don’t think that’s the case,” Christie added.

Though, the former governor said it won’t matter “nearly as much as it did” in 2020.

“Now, I don’t think it’ll matter nearly as much as it did four years ago because he’s not the president, so his influence on what will happen postelection is significantly less now than it was four years ago,” Christie said.

During the interview, Christie said he thinks that the election results won’t be known until late Wednesday, claiming states like Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada will take a while because of the rules they have around counting votes.

Polling averages from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill showed Harris and Trump currently tied.
