Gas prices have remained stable after Hurricane Milton hit Florida’s Gulf Coast.
AAA says prices across the state are down 2 cents a gallon as of Monday, Oct. 21.
In the Miami area, prices have decreased about a penny a gallon — that’s 3.7 cents a gallon less than a month ago and 19.4 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to industry monitor GasBuddy.
“Conditions are much improved compared to this time last week, when retailers struggled to keep their gas pumps stocked, due to the spike in demand from Hurricane Milton,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. “Just one week later, gasoline supplies are much more stable around the state and Floridians do not have to look far to find fuel.”
Several North Florida areas are averaging less than $3 a gallon as the region remains the cheapest to get gas in the state, in some places about 25 cents less per gallon than South Florida. Palm Beach County is among the most expensive areas for gas.

What the experts are saying
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “The median U.S. price for gasoline has just slipped below the $3 a gallon mark for the first time since early 2024, while the national average price of gasoline has returned to decline as oil prices have begun to cool off after Iran’s attack on Israel, due in part to sources saying Israel has agreed not to attack Iran’s oil infrastructure. With the potential of an attack on Iran’s oil infrastructure decreasing as a result, the risk calculus for oil is decreasing, and with continued economic weakness in China providing bearish sentiment, oil prices late last week slipped back below the $70 per barrel mark, opening the door for a longer decline to potentially return to the national average. I’m hopeful that the downward trend will continue again this week for a majority of Americans as we see the average price of gasoline start to make a targeted effort to fall below the $3 a gallon mark for the first time since 2021.”
