Full-size SUVs like a Ford Expedition can be difficult for law enforcement to PIT out in a chase, including for Arkansas State Police. That gives the suspect in this chase a little bit of an edge over the trooper who keeps trying to take the family-friendly tank down with his much smaller and lighter cruiser.
Repo man shot while doing his job.
We usually don’t see chases like this since many criminals prefer smaller, more powerful, and faster rides. But for whatever reason this guy was rolling around in an Expedition with plates which are supposed to be on a Chevy Silverado 1500.
The trooper realizes this when he just randomly runs the plates. How the wrong plates ended up on the Expedition was never explained, but we have a feeling it wasn’t just a crazy accident.
Instead of just pulling over and having a pleasant conversation with the trooper, the Ford driver takes off. But the brick-like SUV isn’t exactly a drag racer, so the trooper is able to keep up well enough.
Our suspect seems to understand size and weight are his only advantages. As the trooper tries positioning to perform a PIT maneuver, the suspect keeps swerving toward the ASP cruiser. This happens repeatedly, until finally the trooper gets in a good, clean PIT.
But that’s not enough, the suspect simply driving out of it like nothing happened. In fact, where the trooper used his push bar doesn’t even look the least bit marred on the Expedition. The thing truly is a tank.
A second, much harder PIT maneuver does show some damage on the Ford, but the suspect drives out of it yet again like nothing happened. Then the trooper does a third PIT even harder, flipping the Expedition around and off the road, but it stays on its wheels and the guy drives down the ditch he’s in until he finally ditches the SUV by the tree line. We think he could’ve kept going but realized the trooper was ready to keep battering the vehicle.
All this leads us to wonder one thing: is anyone using old Expeditions in demolition derbies? It seems they do quite well at getting hit over and over again.
