After months of dry, hot weather, the Fresno area is expected to see some rain along with a big drop in temperatures, the National Weather Service said.
“A pattern change will take place early next week (and) shift winds to the northwest, drawing in cooler air from the north Pacific to central California,” the weather agency said on X, formerly called Twitter. “Afternoon highs next week are expected to be around 5 degrees cooler than average for this time of year.”
The weather change is expected to start on Sunday, according to the national weather service.

When will it rain in Fresno?
Rain clouds start showing up late Sunday night, said Dan Harty, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Harty said there’s a “small chance of rain” on Sunday, adding that residents shouldn’t expect “anything significant, maybe a few hundredths of an inch“ of precipitation.
Skies are forecast to be mostly sunny on Monday with a 30% chance of rain before 11 a.m. The high will be near 67 and the low will be around 48.
“There’s going to be an increase in winds on Monday,” Harty said. “Expect some gusty winds Monday morning, maybe around 25 mph or so.”
Tuesday’s high will be near 65, and the low will be around 45.
Harty said there’s a 20% chance of showers into Tuesday morning with “very, very light amounts” of rain in the Fresno area.
He added that those closer to the Sierra Nevada have “better chances” at seeing some moisture, predicting “up to a 10th to a quarter of an inch of liquid in the mountains (and a) couple inches of snow.”
On Wednesday, the high will be near 68 with a low around 46.
Thursday will see sunny skies with a high near 68 and winds up to 5 mph.
“The temperature is gonna cool down quite a bit” over that time period, Harty said, adding that Fresno-area residents can expect highs in the upper 60s to near 70 for most of next week.
“We’re not going to really warm up,” he said.
