MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The funeral and celebration of life for Ellie Young, a Tennessee medical student who was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend Jackson Hopper, is set for Saturday afternoon.
According to Halls Funeral Home, a visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ripley First United Methodist Church at 145 South Main Street in Ripley, Tennessee.
On Saturday, at 1 p.m., a service will be held at the same location.

Ellie Young’s obituary was posted to the Halls Funeral Home website where friends and family shared memories and kind words.
The obituary says, “Though she was only 22, she was the kind of person many of us hope to be: smart, beautiful, witty, strong-willed, selfless, and kind.”
Young graduated from Halls High School as valedictorian and with honors from University of Tennessee-Martin. At the time of her death, she was pursuing a degree in medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

“She had dreams of becoming a physician to not only wield the wonders of modern medicine, but also to provide patients with compassion and empathy when they needed it most,” read the obituary.
A GoFundMe was organized in support of Ellie Young’s family. It has since amassed nearly $50,000.
“She was walking sunshine, and the world is now a darker place without her,” said Macey Daniel, the GoFundMe organizer.
