WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — West Lafayette police said they have identified the alleged suspect in a Monday battery along Northwestern Avenue as 44-year-old Dominic Cooley.
Cooley, of Lafayette, was identified after being involved in an unrelated incident in Lafayette on Wednesday morning, police said in a news release.
About 10 a.m. Monday morning, West Lafayette police responded to a report of a battery in the 500 block of Northwestern Avenue, where a man and a woman said they were battered by a white male wearing a dark jacket and a Colts baseball cap who attacked the couple as they were walking along the street in front of Wang Hall. Both victims received minor injuries as a result of the attack.
Witnesses told police the man had made “a strange comment about the world ending” before the attack, then ran from the scene.
Cooley has been detained, West Lafayette police said, and there is no danger to the public stemming from the incident. Investigators are still working with the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office regarding the criminal investigation and whether formal charges will be issued.
