Massive truck fire shut down Pennsylvania Turnpike next to Harrisburg Auto Auction

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Tuesday afternoon.

The Turnpike says the fire was located on I-76 West mile 234.5 between Gettysburg Pike Exit #236 and Carlisle Exit #226 near the Harrisburg Auto Auction complex.

The westbound side of the highway has reopened between Gettysburg Pike Exit #236 and Carlisle Exit #226 after being closed for an extended period of time, however, the right lane remains closed past the scene at mile 234.5.

Video from the Turnpike shows smoke billowing over the West Shore and viewer photos showed the entire truck engulfed in fire.

Changes coming to Pennsylvania SNAP benefits

Reports of the fire began shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
