MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Middletown Animal Control is offering a $5,000 award to anyone who may have information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the abandonment and poor condition of a dog.

This comes after a poodle mix, Chucky, was found in McCutcheon Park at Crystal Lake on Oct. 31.

Man sentenced to 40 years for the 2023 murder of a 26-year-old woman in New Haven

Officials estimate that Chucky had not been groomed in over a year and may have been kept in a crate or confined space for a long time.

It took officials over two hours to shave him and it was difficult to sedate him because they could not get a syringe through the thickly matted fur, officials said.

Chucky was barely able to move his legs when walking. It has taken him a few days to learn how to walk and be a ‘real’ dog again.

Chucky is not able to be adopted at this moment as he needs time to recover, according to officials.
