Owner of stolen bike meets with seller … along with Davenport police

A 20-year-old Davenport man was in custody Wednesday after police say the owner of a stolen bicycle met with a man who was trying to sell it, according to court records.

Dillan Silvers, Davenport, faces a felony charge of second-degree theft, court records show.

About 7:33 p.m. Tuesday, Davenport Police responded to a residence on Marquette Street to meet an owner who said someone was trying to sell the owner’s stolen bicycle. according to an arrest affidavit.

“The owner of a stolen bicycle discovered it listed on Facebook Marketplace and arranged to meet (Silvers) on Marquette Street,” arrest affidavits show.

The owner contacted police and, along with officers, met Silvers at the location. Silvers was the person who had listed the stolen bike on Facebook Marketplace, police say in the affidavit.

“This listing was observed by officers,” the affidavit says. “(Silvers) brought the bicycle to the meetup location. Police were able to positively identify the bicycle as stolen through pictures viewed on scene.”

The value of the bike was estimated at $1,500 by the owner.

Silvers, who was being held Wednesday night on a total $15,000 bond in Scott County Jail, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 1 in Scott County Court.
