FLORISSANT, Mo. – Authorities are investigating the possibility that the alleged shooter in a deadly Florissant shooting Friday afternoon acted in self-defense.

Two people have been taken into custody, but no charges have been filed in the investigation as of Saturday, according to the Florissant Police Department.

According to a media statement Saturday from Florissant police, initial information suggested that two adult men and one juvenile arranged to meet in the parking lot of a Florissant shopping plaza in the 8200 block of Lindbergh Boulevard around 3:15 p.m. Police suspect the arrangement was made for the group “to engage in unlawful activity,”

Florissant police say, at some point later, an attempted robbery occurred within a local business and one person inside a vehicle was fatally shot. Additional circumstances around the reported robbery and gunfire were not disclosed.

The Florissant Police Department says it has presented the details of this case to the St. Louis County Family Court and the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

“The Florissant Police Department will remain in close coordination with both offices to provide any further information needed in the ongoing review, which may include consideration of a self-defense claim by the shooter,” said the police department in a statement to FOX 2.

Investigators did not disclose additional information about the two people in custody.

The Florissant Police Department says the case is under advisement and continues to be reviewed.
