State Route 161 near New Albany temporarily shut down after shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – State Route 161 near New Albany was shut down for several hours early Friday morning, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, due to a police incident.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting, which occurred at or near SR 161, near the Sunbury Road exit at around 2:45 a.m. Police said one person was shot and taken to the hospital, though it has not been confirmed if there are other injuries or if anyone is in custody.

A heavy police presence had collected behind a sedan parked on the shoulder of the west Columbus highway, which closed westbound between Sunbury Road and Hamilton Road. The highway reopened at around 5:45 a.m.

The exit ramps from SR 161 to Interstate 270 remained closed in both directions for two-and-a-half additional hours, until they opened at 8:15 a.m.
