WAYNESBORO – Virginia State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that took place Thursday afternoon on Interstate 64 and seriously injured a Staunton man.
The crash took place shortly before 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-64 at mile marker 89, police said.
Police said a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup was headed westbound when it reportedly rear-ended a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The pickup switched lanes and was hit by a 2022 Freightliner M2, police said. The pickup then struck a guardrail and overturned.
The driver of the pickup, Noah D. Cappuzzo, 43, of Staunton, was seriously injured in the crash and flown to UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Charges are pending against Cappuzzo, according to police.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
Court records show Cappuzzo was convicted two times in 2023 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, along with a third conviction last year for driving without a license.
