Updated: 01-11-2024, 05.20 PM

A Townsend favorite, the Trailhead Steak and Trout House, has burned down.

The fire was reported to the Townsend Fire Department early on Friday morning, Nov. 1. The Blount County Fire Protection District was called to assist on the scene at around 4:50 a.m., according to Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan.

Maryville Fire Department and Alcoa Fire Department also provided mutual aid to put out the fire.

By the time Blount County fire crews arrived at the steakhouse, the fire was “fully involved” and there was widespread damage to the building’s structure. The fire was put out and crews left the scene by 10:30 a.m.

No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, according to McClanahan.

The restaurant, located at 7839 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, has been a longtime favorite in the area. As news of the fire spread, heartfelt posts flooded Facebook.

In a Smoky Mountain Faith, Food and Fun group, nearly 100 users commented on the community loss. “So sad for the owners and employees, commented one Facebook user. “Our favorite steak house. Heartbreaking!”

“I hate to hear this,” said another commenter. “I loved that place.”
